Ears remain a work in progress. Edges are still pretty raw and margins remain a little swollen... All part of the normal healing progress. But overall looking good.

I've decided to claim Pink as my own and have decided to name her Dazzle. I think. I'm sure on my selection at this point. The name remains a bit up in the air. So far for a registered name I've got Got My Back's Dazzling Diva. Personally, I usually pick a call name and then create a Registered name that, at least to a degree, incorporates that name. Many AKC dogs though have call names that carry zero reference to their registered name.

Sounds like the first pup of the litter is scheduled to leave us this Saturday. Adam and Adrienne want to pick their boy up and finish the ear care on their own. As I mentioned before, I'm ok with that, but would rather everyone else wait the few extra days for healing so I can demonstrate technique and some hands on experience with a solid and well established tape and post.

Seems this has been a fairly dull blog with little input from pup pals other than those who already have some, nearing adult, pups of mine. I think those couple people have been more active here than those waiting for pups from this particular litter. Owners of the litter have been pretty involved in personal messages, phone calls and emails and as a result even I have kind of lost interest in the blog. Some time go actually. Hopefully the next litter will be a bit more interactive. I always appreciate the back and forth dialog. Between myself and pups pals and communication between pup pals. Every litter has been different. Going forward, I may reformat and get away from a blog form of updating. Less expectations on my end that way. But also no way to place comment if one chooses.

Regardless of format I will always update.

Hope everyone has their abodes fairly well set for the arrival of puppies at this point. Puppy proofing as they say. As a reminder, the pups are currently eating IAMS Large Breed Puppy and are doing well on it. If anyone wants to pre shop for a basic collar, I recommend the adjustable nylon in a size 10-12 or 14 inch length. They grow quickly so the adjustable will prevent the need to go out every couple weeks in search of a replacement.

Hope all is well. Any last minute questions, please don't hesitate to ask. And yes, asking here is fine. Part of transparency. Additionally, if you have a question, others waiting on a pup may share the same or similar and will benefit from the answer provided. I don't claim to have the perfect answer for every question but I do my best.

Post Op Pups!!!

http://www.gotmybackdobermans.com/the-blog5/post-op-pups

http://www.gotmybackdobermans.com/the-blog5/post-op-pups#comments

Uncategorized

Pups were cropped yesterday and they're doing great! We're back to cups or "shriners hats" and a new item, the addition of a sock overlay which I immediately fell in love with. Please see the posts below regarding supplies to gather if you plan to do your own tape and post.... Also, a bit further down the page, a couple great links for you to open regarding socialization!

As all of you know, based on schedule, the pups will be staying with me for several days following their crop before they're eligible to obtain their walking papers aka Health Certificates. As a result, I've offered to hold them for an additional few days to allow their ears to completely heal at which time they will be ready for their first tape and post. Seems everyone's going to take me up on that offer, as well as the offer to instruct how to do a tried and true method of tape and post... It seems it's becoming harder and harder to find reputable croppers and even difficult, from what I hear, to locate a vet who's willing to do a simple tape and post.

I think it will be easier for me to instruct and give everyone some hands on with supervision than it's historically been to try and and answer questions and direct via phone and photos down the road. It's important to me that each of your pups ears turn out fabulous so lets prepare for taping 101... If you've taped before and would rather collect your pup as soon as they're legally ready to go just let me know... But for now I'm planning on getting them through the healing process which generally takes 10-12 days from the time of crop. A first for me with an entire litter but think I'm up to the task.... Have had lots of practice.

It's been a good week... The selection process is complete and once again... or a few times again, I've had a chance to meet some truly lovely people. Rod came out with his wife and daughter and set claim to our Purple collared boy. They are long time Doberman owners and the decision wasn't an easy one. Up next Rashad arrived with his son and sister and placed claim of Big Blue... They've named him Nubi! I love the name! Original. A few days later Jennifer, along with her seemingly "very ready for a puppy" son came for a visit and it was love at first sight I think for Johnathon and Orange. They've named him Titan. Then we added Adam and his wife who've named their boy, Tan, Samson I think... or is it Ace Adam?

And at this time.... I'm still not sure who I'm going with. My decision keep fluctuating!

I've got a few picks to post from earlier in the week but honestly I've not taken that many. The past few days have been rediculously cold. Too cold for me. The pups have had some exposure. Still eating their meals on the back deck and are happy to play for a bit after each meal. But with the cold temps playtime even for them has shortened. As soon as they begin to wind down, rather than jumping on the cot to bask in the sun, they're hanging out near the door ready to come in. Tomorrow is supposed to be the beginning of a warming trend. I hope that forecast holds true.

A Sea of Black And Rust!

http://www.gotmybackdobermans.com/the-blog5/a-sea-of-black-and-rust

http://www.gotmybackdobermans.com/the-blog5/a-sea-of-black-and-rust#comments

Uncategorized

Huddled up trying to stay cozy and warm after breakfast [...]

Huddled up trying to stay cozy and warm after breakfast

Tape And Post! I do speak to all pup parents about the importance of socialization though and can't stress enough just how important it actually is. Early and ongoing. The selection process and a chance to meet, face to face, those who will eventually take over the reins of my babes. It's a fun process sitting back to watch the selection process unfold.

I quickly uploaded week 6 photos this morning while waiting for Seth to arrive... As he drove up I was down to the last pup, Tan. Interestingly enough, when I went back in to publish the pages I'd completed so Seth could have the opportunity to see one last set before making his decision, I walked in to a power outage. By the time the power powered back up the choice had been made. But... I published and he browsed never the less. No second thoughts offered... His mind made up. In addition to showing himself well today, Mr Green "Vaughn" also proved to be photogenic for his week 6 photo shoot. A fairly quick and generally painless process for me. Love it when they cooperate. Sometimes I get lucky. Sometimes they drag me all over the property. :-)

Weights are posted... working on weekly photos...

http://www.gotmybackdobermans.com/the-blog5/weights-are-posted-working-on-weekly-photos

http://www.gotmybackdobermans.com/the-blog5/weights-are-posted-working-on-weekly-photos#comments

Uncategorized

[...]

Week Five Extras...

http://www.gotmybackdobermans.com/the-blog5/week-five-extras

http://www.gotmybackdobermans.com/the-blog5/week-five-extras#comments

Uncategorized

Waiting Their Turn [...]

Waiting Their Turn
