Still Working...

Naturally I had to update the Newbies. Because, well... because they're new. And I'm hanging out with Ritz intermittently too to make sure she remains sane with her newly acquired family. So far, so good!

But...  that doesn't mean I've forgotten you or your pups. I'm trying to compile a mom and pup photo series for week seven. And although I love the advent of rapid fire shutter, at times I think whoever invented it should be shot. So many photos! But with constantly moving objects, especially two at once, the feature is definitely useful. The whole process though, time consuming. There comes a point when I simply need more hours in a day.

For the most part now I'm concentrating on cleaning feeding and medicating. The pups are pretty good at entertaining themselves.
Blue has finished his antibiotic regimen and goes in for a recheck on Thursday. He's looking and doing great... gaining weight and filling out his frame! I'm hoping his pneumonia is a thing of the past and that which he's already received proves to be enough.  Went to our local Vet today, picked up vaccinations and got them administered. The first of a series of puppy shots done!  And once again, my nursing skills put to good use.

Tails and dewclaws are scheduled for the newbies Wednesday morning so these doggies have me running. But all in all it isn't actually as busy as I thought it might be. Helps that the weather has improved. For the most part the kibble pups are dining on the deck and left out there for an hour or two following each meal to do their business and get some exercise. A quick shovel and hose off of the run and deck and things are good to go for the next round. Saves on shavings and work which is always welcome.

And tonight we celebrate New Years Eve... quietly in the comfort of home. Holiday bombs and missiles are noted =in the distance. Close enough for me and the menagerie of critters here.

Life With Dogs....

12/29/2018

As anticipated this was a busy week but actually not quite as hectic as I'd planned for. If you recall I stated a couple weeks back I'd probably be running around like a chicken with my head cut off toward the end of December. Well the end of December is here and I'm still sane.... Been busy but a busy that's been easily managed. Keeping up with all with the exception maybe of a blog post or two I would have liked to fit in prior to now.

As expected Ritz welcomed her own to the GMBD family. And I'm most happy to report the litter came with zero complications. Yay!!!  To top things off Ritz deserves an award of excellence in mothering. She's making life easy for me. On checks I find her calm cool and collected with Enya playing in the background. Frequent checks though are a habit engrained and are something I can't not do.  Just not my nature. As I did with Remedy I spend some time with Ritz and the pups during the day while I catch an episode of Grey's Anatomy here and there.  In doing so I'm able to get a feel for the vibes within the room. Fortunately the vibes are nothing but serene.

Kind of odd to have two litters in the house at the same time with two completely different sets of needs. Neighboring rooms each with it's own vibe. The serene v.s. the hell raisers. :-)

Your pups are doing great...  the week has given us some decent weather which we appreciated and took advantage of. Earlier in the week and today the babes enjoyed group outings with yours truly. But Thursday
afternoon and Friday we changed things up a bit. They were basically left to their own devices and imagination for a few hours each day within the confines of the small dog run. Set just off the back of the house I was able to check on them from the bedroom window while at the same time sitting whelp watch with Ritz. Pups as a group are pretty good at entertaining themselves given a few safe toys and the company of each other. Their stamina's increasing daily and space and freedom to run within a safe space is good for them. There, they're also exposed to the likes of a dog house for rest as well as the sling bed which they've grown accustomed to indoors.

The time is flying by! Page updates and weights due once again tomorrow... seems I just did it.

I've got a slide show to compile of photos taken though the week. The photos are slow to load though so the plan is to set them up and come back at some point tonight when they're complete to post.... for now all you get are words. The week in review. And I get dinner, an episode of Grey's Anatomy and a couple hours of those serene vibes I mentioned earlier....  with Ritz and the newbies.

In the photos that are set to follow you'll have to look closely to identify your pups by the collars they wear. With the exception of Otis, our Brown collared boy, who was found naked this morning and remained naked during todays outdoor adventure. An adventure where they worked feverishly on the landscape. While they're all able to multi-task some concentrated, for the most part,  on perfecting the holes they started early in the week while others used their skills to trim the foliage. Both jobs  though remain a work in progress.

Weights and Wormers...

12/24/2018

Weights are posted... Great gains!!! Even R.B. -the trooper made of steel Remington gained a couple pounds over the course of the past week!!!"

Comparing results with Majestic's pups of same age it appears Remedy and Galtero's pups will run about the same and I think have similar body type as adults. Estimating 2 year weights at roughly 70-80 for females and 90-100 for males. Will be interesting to see how well my prediction holds. Your pups are only six weeks old and I'm already getting anxious to see how they adult up. I'm sure Rem and Galtero have produced pups worthy of a repeat breeding from the looks of them now but the only way I'll know for sure is from the photos and updates each of you are kind enough to share going forward.

The past several litters have their own litter specific Facebook pages which seem to be a great way to facilitate that and as it turns out, they're a great source of support for owners as they go through the trials of puppy rearing. During our visits this past week I had a chance to discuss a litter page with everyone with the exception of Justin and it seems unanimous. Everyone's game. And I'll mention it to Justin... it just slipped my mind when we spoke on the phone. Historically, the pages have been set to a "private audience" meaning in order to get on the page and post you have to request to become a member. And only members are able to see the posts...  I don't generally set the pages up but I do help, as a co-administrator, to facilitate adding litter owners and at times their extended family members. Family members and significant others can be added my members themselves as well. If anyone would like to set up the page a volunteer would be welcome. Just say the word and I'll assist in the recruitment process.

We had a gorgeous day today which has been somewhat of a rarity between wind cold and or rain! And we took advantage of it!!!  The pups seemed to thoroughly enjoy their outing and I managed to get enough photos to update their pages. Tomorrow.

I'm  tossing in a photo...  Just for fun. Because it was!
Some would say we're a little off on our Holiday attire but Nyx was begging to be a pumpkin! She pranced and slid around having a grand ole time. Rather difficult capturing a photo but I finally got one that wasn't all a blur. RB wanted to be a Devil but we're saving that till after Christmas...  More too come. If it suits him. What can I say. Tractor Supply had a can't pass it up sale on costume. Halloween costumes. Added bonus... they'll be warm if we have to battle more cold!

Another tough decision made and the rest basically falls in place!

Gina and Hugh arrived all smiles despite running a little late from battling traffic jams... No better way to leave the woes of the road behind though than to concentrate on the antics of the innocent. Especially knowing the task at hand will result in an addition to family.  The worries of the road quickly left behind -at least until the the tail end of the visit when the thought of a return trip surfaced.

After some back and forth, a process I've become very familiar with, a decision was made and another pup named. Moon, as I've been calling him, has been claimed and given the name Scout. That decision leaves just two... Brown and Blue. And as I said... the rest just fell in place.

Justin called earlier in the day to notify me he wasn't going to be able to make his appointment scheduled the day after Christmas due to a change in Holiday plans. Considering the Holiday at hand and a drive to and from that amounts to an all day affair it's completely understandable. Litters that revolve around holidays definitely present their challenges. Add to that my own issue of a litter on the way with a date that's tentative and a reschedule is tough. Justin asked that I help him with his decision saying he was sure any would be fine but given a choice he'd prefer a larger dog...

In my heart I was hoping he hadn't secretly been watching Blue with intent to claim him if available.  In the end things work out. Sandy has been Blue's biggest fan from very early on. Based on his previously covered issues and her position on the reservation list, we've spoken many times and extensively over the course of the past 4-5 weeks. She went as far as to tell me, assuming he'd be passed up, they'd come up with a name for him....  weeks ago. The name though has kind of evolved along with him... Originally what was Remington Blue which I shortened in conversation and email to R.B. evolved to Remington Steel. And now... as of a couple days ago, based on the pup himself, they're trying to figure out how to fit Trooper in. Ultimately it sounds like he'll go by Remy but for now, I'll be calling him Remington...  and Blue... and My Little Trooper as I've been referring to him for several days.

Justin tells me they've been tossing names around for Brown but it sounds like it's still a name that remains in the air... might be a pup that needs to be seen first -but "Otis" is a strong contender!

All said and done at the end of the day I've got a quiet evening planned.... Maybe catch a decent dinner and a movie. Then tomorrow, with continued cooperation in the way of weather, it's photo day for your babies!

So... today the pups and I were treated to an enjoyable visit from Peter and Annette and their daughter Jill. The selection process has officially begun and todays winner was Pink who quickly wormed her way on to Jill's lap. They've decided to name her Sunny which I think will fit her disposition well. As expected it was noted that the decision wasn't easy. While I see some subtle differences between the pups in photos, to look at them in the flesh they're very similar. Orange may be a little more outgoing and adventurous but both pups are pretty confident. I called to let Sandra know which pup she could now officially call her own. She tells me now, as she told me prior to knowing, she and Terry would be perfectly happy to claim either as their own.  Orange and I will take that as a win too! They've decided to call their girl Nyx. Unusual and unique...  and another great name. They've opted to forgo the long drive for a meet and greet but promise to spend a little extra time here the day of pick up to get a chance to get to know their girl and she them before making the long trip back home.

Our visit today began indoors based on outdoor temps and as we chatted, naturally little boy Blue came into conversation. I brought him out for an introduction, some play time, and a look see. "So cute" was how he was described. And I'm happy to report he's doing great!!! I think I saw some improvement within about 24 hours of our Vet visit. Historically his litter-mates have kind of left him alone up to this point. Not isolating... just kind of giving him a break I guess. Sometimes some of the larger pups will pick on the smaller ones but that has never been the case with Blue. There was a time, in fact, when I wondered if "Nyx", the orange girl, was kind of protecting or shielding him. Then last night it began... Orange initiated some play with him which he seemed up for but within minutes I heard the voice of a pup standing it's ground.  I looked over to find Red kind of on his side looking a bit surprised with Blue towering over him. Blue had the whole stand your ground stance going on and the vocals to go with! So great to see! Today Blue enjoyed his romp and some cuddles from Jill before our conversation led to Red... the pup with the identifying white mark on his hip. So out came Red. Not "knowing" the actual cause of the mark, when I mentioned the only thing I could think of was that he had been raked by the hind paw of another pup while nursing, Annette agreed with that as a possibility. Especially after experiencing the sharpness of the pups nails in play. I myself got raked in the face by a front paw the other day as I held a pup up close to look him/her in the eye while jabbering some exuberant baby talk.  It's response unintended and unanticipated left a couple pretty deep scratched on my own flesh which are still evident today.

Tomorrow we welcome Melanie late morning and Gina early afternoon to get selection of the boys underway. Looks like we're starting out lucky with weather! Todays visit which began indoors ended with some outdoor time. The pups tolerated the cool temps fairly well while active but began shaking like leaves as they began to slow down. The forecast ahead though while remaining cool, calls for blue skies and a warming trend. Good news for visits as well as our week six photo shoot!
