Surprise! Green beans are back in season! A few months of them at their best are never enough for me! Sometimes I add meat. Not necessary but not something I'm opposed to. I simply tend to go for the simple. Quick and easy, Five minute dinners! Looks good though huh? Pepper all around! Regular pepper... complimented by lemon pepper. Can never have too much pepper!

The pups are growing so fast! Coming along so good Deb. Most of my questions were answered when you answered all the questions of the other pup parents. Toys, socialization, crate training, and food. I do have one question and I know this doesn’t really matter at all in the long run but can you offer any advice on when we are out socializing our new pup and we get questions about ear cropping? With my two dobies there seemed to always be that one person that wasn’t just curious but more judgmental and sometimes I found myself not wanting to take them out into public until they were healed and after the article you sent I now know that’s way too late to wait.

I’m sure Deb has a better answer but I can just tell you how we have handled it with Apollo This last few weeks with him that we have been out. Most people have been great and understand its part of the breed standard. With others, I had someone ask what happened and I just said it helps keep the ears up and left it at that. Just yesterday while at Home Depot someone was brave enough to say to my husband that they were against ear cropping and believed it was abuse. My husband explained that it’s actually better for the dog to have the ears cropped due to so many dogs suffering from ear infections and how someone we knew had a retriever that had developed a large cyst due to an severe ear infection, the gentlemen seemed to have accepted my husbands explanation and thanked him and walked off. But it really hasn’t been too bad for us as of yet.

I think those are good responses Yvette... bottom line, you can't forfeit your dogs well being and forgo important socialization based on opinion of others. And like you, for the most part my pups are greeted like any other puppy one might run into. But there are times. It seems everyone has an opinion these days. My opinion is, many of them should be kept to themselves. I would be inclined to be a bit more snarky but only because I'm generally tired of the overall political correctness we face in todays world. If someone approaches me with a tone of judgement, I might say something like... Well, ya know, I understand your position. Everyone is entitled to their opinion but I don't necessarily think it's always appropriate or necessary to "share" those opinions. Some question with genuine interest. In that case I'm happy to discuss things; the procedure, the standard etc. With that said, I do actually try to play nice with others but gave up any attempt to change mind set a long time ago.

If you haven't ventured there yet, I strongly recommend to try them with lemon pepper! So, so good!

Hi Deb, just wondering. I saw you posted future reservations and saw that you have Getka for 2020. Don’t know if you remember, but she was one of our favorites. I know you can’t really tell the future, but do you think Getka will have any litters after the 2020 or will she be retiring soon after. We are looking to getting another pup from you but I think next year might be to soon.

I'd say chances are good Yvette. She's had only two litters, including this one, and is still a pretty young dog. It really depends on the individual dogs when I decide no more for them. Getka's a super strong dog. But they all are! Dobermans are strong! Typically I would say as a general rule I wouldn't breed beyond age six... but that isn't even set in stone. Honestly, with the issues the breed faces, it's probably better to breed them late for the sake of longevity in breed. A bit unconventional, and typically smaller litters but a breeding strategy. As long as the dog isn't placed at risk by doing so. Those on her reservation list know she may be bred next cycle or it may be a year. If it turns out to be a year I may lose those who you see on her list now. It's actually better for the dog to breed them back to back but only if they've recovered well and are in top shape when that time comes. Besides having an ample supply of milk, you wouldn't know Getka just had a litter of pups. She looks fabulous.
