Two short weeks... incredible changes! And it's good to have my work week behind me. Three days ago I was just beginning to see some eyes trying to open. Today, the pups eyes are fully or at least near fully open. And increased awareness is obvious.
As far as their mobility goes, they're doing a pretty good job of sitting, at least for brief periods and some are taking their first few real steps followed by a roll or a face plant. They're putting forth good effort but not quite there yet.
They're getting more vocal too as they discover their bark and some sweet little growls. Their growl however sounds a bit more like a cat's loud purr. They're adorable! And growing.
I finally got around to weighing everybody tonight and I'm happy with their gains. Each pup gained just over a pound and some came close to a pound and a half. With the exception of one! Maroon Girl gained the most and has actually surpassed the boys with her gain of 1 pound 11 ounces! It's doubtful she'll maintain the status of the largest pup @ 8 weeks of age but for now she carries her title with pride.
Tomorrow the pups will receive the first of a series of wormers and their first taste of something other than mom's milk. We'll see some significant changes occur in the next couple weeks and their experiences, like their bodies, will continue to grow. New collars, nail trims, mash and the first of their outdoor adventures. They're about to become fun! Work, but none the less fun!
I took a moment for myself today; some R&R and a much needed trail ride with some new found friends...a great way to leave the work week behind and set myself up for a wonderful week ahead. I figured I better take the opportunity now as Majestic will soon be handing the bulk of her work load over to me. It's time once again to gear up!
