I kind of feel like photos of the litter are somehow lacking. Each litter and each mom is different. Unfortunately I've had very few mom and pup photo ops this go round with the exception of those that occurred very early on. As mentioned in other posts Getka is spending less and less time with these little ones and that began pretty early. If I happen to walk in and catch her with them she quickly jumps out. They seem to be doing great though despite her attention deficit. Last night as she stood outside their box looking in on them, the yellow collared girl started barking at her. Probably saying "What are you doing out there mom? Come in here and feed us"! Not sure how their weights will look this week but I expect a wide variation. I gave them a trial of mash last week but they didn't seem to tolerate it as well as I'd like. Generally they're ready at 4 weeks; three just a little too early. So I backed off and will start regular feedings on Wednesday.
The photos below aren't any of my best. If you click on each one it will enlarge but proud of them I'm not so I made them small. Sometimes I guess what you've got is better than nothing at all. One was snapped right after Getka flew the coop leaving the pups in a frenzy wondering what just happened. The others were snapped as they were starting to settle but before settling too much.
They're starting to get pretty responsive to me... When I talk to them they're making eye contact. And they as a group gravitate toward me when they hear me and at times stand on the walls to get closer.
They're also starting to get more playful with each other. Irish sometimes gets trampled by the herd but seems not to care and works his way right out of the mess. He remains so tiny but is really a bright eyed and active little guy. I remain hopeful he'll experience some sort of a growth spurt when on solids. I'm not expecting him to even remotely catch up with his litter mates but some meat on his bones would be a welcome sight.
On the home front, I've been spending quite a bit of time on the litter pages with owners of litters past. A couple are having some difficulties and I feel, on top of wanting to be there for them, it's my duty to be there for them. Sounds as though things are starting to improve for the pup who has always received an over abundance of love and under abundance of training. At least their on a promising path. And one who's been under socialized has a game plan going forward. Two pups from past litters welcomed new four leggers to the family today. I found that funny. Two on the same day. One described as a new little brother and the other a Birthday present for the existing.
Beyond pups, older pups and my own dogs, there's always grounds maintenance. Especially this time of year. I spent a day and a half sweeping leaves and burning. Probably have another day or two to put in to get things wrapped up. Figured now, before the pups are ready to get out there is the time to get it done.
So that's it in a nutshell... All is going well here. Hope things are well with each of you too.
