Nasty Weather!

To date each of my litters has had a chance to experience a bout of severe weather including a thunderstorm in the company of many. Goes with the territory when living in Florida I guess. Today the Valentine litter got their opportunity. Location on the map... between Gainesville and Ocala.
The pups were enjoying a pleasant afternoon on the back deck after lunch when the skies began to darken and the winds kicked up. I left them out under some gentle rumbling and a light drizzle while I finished some outdoor tidying nearby. Allowing them to experience a variety of weather patterns is something I do whenever I get the chance. Seems pups in general are a bit hesitant with their first experiences but when they're in a group they're quick to forget or disregard the encroaching darkness and drizzle and simply get back to playing. As long as things don't get severe. This afternoon, as always, I ushered them in before that point. And shortly thereafter, hammered we got! Tired from play, they slept through a pretty nasty storm unfazed as did my adults. Personally, I enjoy the storms but with the threat of tornadoes in our forecast today I'm happy to say the bulk of our weather for the day seems to be behind us. Looks like most of the state got a taste of what we received. Hope all weathered well.

You have no idea how awesome it is going to be to get a well adjusted pup. You are def an amazing breeder. Let's just hope Batmans fear of storms doesn't rub off. He was skittish about storms but he would look to the girls to see if he should be afraid...they weren't so he uneasily endured...l then one day he encountered a close lightning strike that hit a tree across the street. From then on it was crazy...he would literally be trying to climb on my head. He has gotten a lot better but he still doesn't like thunder or lightning.

None of my dogs care much about them... Majestic has developed an uneasiness and looks to me for some reassurance but I'm not really sure I can blame her. She and Serious were housed in the kennel that's attached to my out-building one day while I was working when a tornado apparently breezed through. Their shelter from the weather is the porch of the out-building that's enclosed by wood fencing on the sides and a chain link panel with a door in the front that serves to keep the rest of the kennel intact. Thirty miles away in Gainesville I didn't even know we had weather. My neighbor, the next day, reported we had a hail storm. When I got home from work it was obvious there had been a tornado of sorts on my property. In somewhat of a light zigzag pattern there was a very definite line of destruction. Neighbor to the left lost a large tree and the metal roof from his barn. I lost a perfectly healthy cedar tree in the front yard, several metal sheets from my wood-shed roof and the bulk of the metal sheets off the porch of the house. The chain link panels that create the dog run were blown into the center of the run and one bottom rail bent. That didn't all happen as a result of your average wind storm. The dogs very fortunately were unscathed and calm when I got home. Pretty amazing really. But Jess has a somewhat healthy uneasiness with storms now. I think I'm glad I missed it!
