I'm pretty happy with the numbers as well as consistency. The smallest pup at birth remains the smallest but not far behind the next in line. And the largest at birth is currently tied for title of heavyweight with one of his brothers. All is well here!
Pups are doing great! Growing, eating and just in general doing pup things. I love listening to them. Their vocals are starting to change. Most often kind of a rolling growl vs somewhat of a purr. But an occasional pretty distinct bark now too. They're also getting around better by the day. Crawling on their bellies still but building muscle. A few shots from this mornings whelping box... and one in the box waiting for bedding change. Still look so tiny when pictured as a group in their current habitat. It's amazing though how quickly they grow into that space. The pups had their first road trip today and came back and ounce or two lighter of tails and dewclaws. Phase one of breed specific beautification complete.
Some of you may have noticed your position change a bit as far as selections will go. In fact everyone moved up a notch. When calling to confirm, the two people with longest standing reservations for each sex had some life changes since, that deemed now not the best time to add a pup. And another, sadly, couldn't get his wife 100% on board with the breed. It happens and I always say, better it happens before the pups are placed than after. In addition, with Shine on board, I won't be keeping a pup... unless by the 6-8 week mark I'm still holding pups waiting for their forever homes. In that case, and only that case, I will naturally choose my favorite. For that reason my name remains at the top of the list, as it always does. But... with all that said, when it comes right down to it, we have three black and rust girls available. It's been a while since that's been the case at this stage of the game! Not concerned though. I'm pretty sure they've got it in 'em to sell themselves. Pups Are Here! We have black pups, red pups, girl pups and boys! All delivered on none other than Getka's own birthday! The birthday girl did a pretty fair job of satisfying those on her waiting list with a total of nine but unfortunately we did fall short of two boys and have a surplus of a couple girls. Not too terrible when having to factor in not only sex but also color. We got started with an early morning whelp which I appreciated. It's always a glorious thing to get things going with a full nights sleep behind you. A luxury I've very rarely been afforded. Mom and pups are settling well. Getka attentive and placing her babes as she sees fit. She's actually my only female that picks her pups up in order to position them according to her preference, careful to assure none are left behind. Whelp Day! Welcome To The World!!! Day Two! Taming The Chaos! A full bedding change, a bit of handling, collars placed and weights obtained. The collars help me keep track of who's who and the weights which will be done approximately weekly help me assure none are falling behind. I'm pretty happy with the weights of the litter. Pretty typical of past litters and all pups measure quite close to one another. Each was quick to pick up the art of nursing, and finally some much needed rest for Getka! |
