Suddenly Serious He's Got My Back!
My first in person meeting with Serious occurred 2/19/2013. I drove to Tennessee to visit the breeder and take my pick from a litter of 11 beautiful black and rust Doberman pups consisting of six males and five females. I knew I wanted a male so that simplified things a bit. It was still really tough to choose just one but finally the choice was made! I chose the pup I'd been watching; the boy I thought I would choose based on pictures the breeder had taken over the course of the previous four weeks. I chose the largest and presumably the most hearty and healthy Doberman Pup of the pack.... now to wait another four weeks when I could bring my boy home. Agony!

Such a happy go lucky guy! But a hard candidate to photograph. i jumped to the other side of the fence to get this one. He'll sit on command for a photo but never looks particularly happy doing it. This guy, like most, is definitely happiest by my side rarely veering away from that position. If he does it's to lift a leg which doesn't make for the best of photos -or on occasion with nose to the ground in hot pursuit of who knows what. He's got some prey drive but I'd say only a mild or maybe moderate amount. He also demonstrates some guarding abilities, or at least he'll sound the alarm. Generally though, and appreciated, it's only when he notices something that's obviously foreign and a deviation from the norm. One of the things I love about him- he just sort of goes with the flow of country life. We've never been in any kind of position to really test those innate traits to protect any further. And hopefully we never will. Serious has kind of left the toys of his youth behind and is just an all around sweet, playful and stable farm dog of a Dobe. He's still bouncy, playful and loaded with energy. Fortunately, at five, I can attest to a healthy boy, historically never needing to see his Vet except for the purpose of yearly checkups and routine lab. I guess I've been pretty lucky with all my dogs in the health department. Hopefully that trend will continue. Long live Serious. Happy Birthday buddy!!
