A Week Of Change!

Three Weeks down! Five to go!!! And the past week has brought forth some big changes in the pups. From the photo at left you can see they've gained the ability to sit and stand with pretty decent doggie conformation.

Still sleeping most times but their wakeful periods are starting to include a bit of play. Mainly batting at, gnawing on and licking each other. They're getting cuter by the day!

The past week has brought forth some pretty noticeable changes in Getka too. Spending much less time with her pups and a great deal more time on my bed. She's doing a good job of staying in to feed, just much less frequently. With that, I'm gearing up to assume the responsibility of providing their nutrition which starts next week!  It's pretty obvious looking at the photos... Getka has a big job at hand. The pups are absolutely running out of elbow room a the milk bar!

Next week marks the beginning of my favorite time. Outdoor excursions! But for now, it all about handling, and daily bedding changes.

Off time has been dedicated the other residents here and to time spent with my own pup, Shine, as we continue to work on her needed socialization and early training.

It's amazing how much of difference a week makes. We really cannot wait to see these most welcomed upcoming pup changes in the weeks to come. We already planned the weeks ahead with the kids to go start buying all the puppy essentials we will be needing. Kids are really excited about that. Any tips on such essentials will be much appriciated. Thanks ahead.

I'm a strong advocate of crate training Jace. Certainly not as a place which allows one to shove their pup to the side. But they absolutely help with potty training and later chewing of things you don't want teeth on when you can't supervise them. For the most part the pups need to be with you but also need some alone time and a crate is a great place to get them used to being comfortable in their own skin. These pups grow quick so I generally recommend buying a crate that will see them through their first couple years. For a male I recommend the 48 inch. Females may be able to get away with a 42 but I actually think 48 is best for both. Soft toys (stuffies) are good in the early days but it's not long before they begin tearing the stuffing out which can be a hazard if they eat it. Would avoid buying too many of those. Some... just not too many. I steer clear of rawhide due to chocking hazard and in general bad press. I think antlers, deer or elk, while expensive are worth it. They're safe and long lasting but the pups grow quickly so if you decide to go that route get a larger one. It will last and last. I like most of the JW toy line. Many can be found on Chewy.com. I especially like the "Crackle Heads" and Hol-ee Roller balls. Most seem Doberman worthy and hold up pretty well. A basic collar (adjustable nylon is probably most practical) Generally a size 10-12 or 10-14 inch will get you by for quite a while. Some people prefer harnesses but honestly they grow out of them so quickly I'm not sure they're worth the investment. As far as food goes, I'm planning to transition the pups onto Victor Professional. But it's a little early to start thinking about food. I do recommend basic obedience classes and have enjoyed taking my own dogs to puppy kindergarten as well. That's something you may want to do some research on. I prefer getting involved with a dog "club" vs PetSmart and the like. But that's just personal preference. I'm sure there's tons more and things I've left out... food/water bowls. Kid gates maybe. Harnesses with seat belt attachments are good for travel... but again, they grow so fast! Hope this helps. Specific question, please ask.

Great info, doing some research already on the training crate. I'm sure my wife will come up with more questions.

Wow!! What a difference a week makes, it amazes me how much they have grown in such a short time. We are looking forward to the coming weeks, outdoor excursions and how much more they will grow and change. I do have a question for you, what brand of dry food do you wean them to after the soft? We are also making a list of needed essentials (aka my full of everything chewy cart.. lol ) and want to have the food he will be used to here when we bring him home.
Thanks for another group of great photos 😊

More than likely I'll be feeding them Victor Professional but it basically depends on how they do with the transition. A little too early to know
