No pictures tonight but I did take a bunch today... I'll weed through them this evening and get them uploaded into a slideshow over the next few evenings. I'm getting anxious to show off my babies... First few visits are confirmed and I'll see a few of you next week. Looking forward to finally meeting everyone in person.
Well, I've had a chance to speak with a few of you this morning and I've just got to say... what a pleasure. I'm glad to hear each of you have in fact been following the blog and I loved to hear the excitement in your voices. Nothing makes me happier than to know these pups are going to well prepared homes with people that can't wait to get their arms around them! I've been where you are today playing the waiting game, and difficult as it was, the wait was well worth it. I'm sure it will be for each of you too! With that said, the first of the week some selections will be made. Katy and Rick will be here Monday afternoon to choose their girl. And I'm pretty sure Sally Beth, anxiously awaiting their decision, will come to select her's asap thereafter. And since Diane lives so close, we may be able to fit her in next week as well. Elaine will more than likely both claim and collect her pup the week of the 15th. That's it for the girls... As far as the boys are concerned, I've got a call out to Tyler and Katie but they informed me during an earlier conversation that pretty much any evening next week will work... maybe Monday for them too but we'll see. I've also got calls out to Natalia and Kathy and hope a visit next week will work for them as well. If not, the following week is available too. The rest of you with the possible exception of Tom and Brittany, since they too are close, will likely have to live in suspense just a little longer. I know.... uhg! But Just remember..... Unless..... It's Not A Doberman! Forgot to mention. Pup selection is officially underway. I spoke with Cooki who confirms she is sticking by her girl... the girl she chose shortly after the pups were born. Cooki has selected Sky Blue and is anxiously awaiting the day she can introduce her to her new home. Sky from now and forever forward will go by the name of Nina! Next up for the girls, Katy and Rick and then to get things started with the boys Katie and Tyler. Hopefully we can schedule a get together with both families somewhat early next week and go from there. We're getting close. I'll do another round of photos next week and hopefully the next and try and get everybody out early enough in the day to be able to take some candid shots as a group throughout this week and next. We'll see how that goes. There's nothing like seeing the pups in the flesh though and I hope everyone has a chance to come and visit them before it's time to claim them as their own and take them home. You've been a quiet group for the most part with a few exceptions. I can only hope everyone is following the blog and is anxiously waiting and prepared for incoming.
Finally a day with no obligations and no rain. The pups and I enjoyed it. They entertained themselves on the porch in the pup corral while I did a deep clean on their pup habitat. They are doing a fantastic job of sleeping on the crib mattress, keeping their eating area clean and doing their business in the area with shavings. While this doesn't sound like much, it's simplified my life, and should make house breaking more of a breeze for everyone. Cleaning task complete, the pups mastered puppy challenge 101 and were out of the porch corral in no time flat! At this age they're still a little unsure of the great outdoors, tend to stay close to to each other and are reluctant to venture too far away from their home base whatever it may be at any given time. It makes keeping track of everyone pretty easy. They're beginning to get inquisitive and as all pups do they're quick to discover, with their mouths, the various foliage on the grounds and everything else that isn't tacked down. Now would be a good time for everyone to take a look at their own grounds and do a google search to make sure you have nothing growing that's toxic for dogs. They will eat almost anything for the next six months or so, so preventative measures are best. The group as a whole enjoyed their time of exploration, and then individually, as it was back to the task at hand. Weekly photos for their individual pup pages... a little late but better late than never as they say. As were the weights. It's true, I skipped an entire week! I weighed the pups on Sunday after work and have yet to post them but will today. All in all, there are no big surprises with he exception of one. Brown. Not sure what to think about Brown. He's a character for sure but lacks the puppy fat the others have. While all the pups will begin to lean out in a month or so, Brown has already entered the leaning phase. He's more refined in general. Leaner face and head, smaller bones and feet... and healthy as a horse. I always identify one pup in a litter that I declare as "the firecracker." Brown is on his way to claiming that title. I didn't need a scale to know he would gain the title of lightweight. I don't need a Vet to tell me there's nothing wrong with him. Maybe a faster metabolism, maybe just carrying the lean gene. In any event he's more dog like than any pup in the litter. He's confident and agile and most responsive of all. One to watch, one to run with and one most likely to excel in agility. Below are a few photos of him in action. While some may look at the weight and think "Brown's failing" I and he are here to prove that assumption would be wrong. There's something... something unique about Brown! And yes... he does eat, as you can see, with flair! For photos of the other pups, please venture over to their individual pages. I ran out of daylight and didn't get Orange Girl captured but will see what I can do about that this evening. I've posted some of the "extras" from our photo shoot in a slideshow just below the "Protected By Doberman" sign! If the slide shows don't roll automatically for you, there's a play button hidden in the top left hand corner of each.
Last week a group of us enjoyed our first organized get together and had a blast! I've posted a few additional photos of our outing on the Running Blog located under the more tab. Extended Family Members - Left to Right: Noble, Snoop, Remedy, Toby, and Katie with friends Dehner, the Pit and Cookie the Chi. Their humans - Javier and Jenny, Brian, Me, Sue, Sharon and Jared.
So another week complete. Four weeks down and four weeks to go. The slide show above is a little weak according to my own standards. Two rainy days didn't help my cause but I think I've learned from them. Next week I'll get the photos done early in the day before the rains come. And next week there's much less on my personal agenda so I'm hoping to have some fun with the pups as well as the camera. The week in review... finds these babes really coming to life. They're very responsive to my voice and are doing a fair job of following as long as I don't venture too far away. They're just starting to build some confidence and we'll see that develop a great deal more in the next couple weeks. I got them set up in their new pup habitat and have configured it a little differently than I have in the past. I've tried to segregate things into 3 stations... one for sleeping, one for eating and one for doing their business. So far they're doing a pretty good job of cooperating with the arrangement. Once they get a little bigger and are solidly on kibble, I'll likely do away with the feeding station so they have more room to romp. But for now it's working.
