        Pups Are Here!

Let There Be Light and Sound!

Well, there is very little new to report...  And as they say, sometimes no news is good news. The pups are growing and filling out the whelping pool nicely!  Weights and the first of a series of wormers are due Saturday...  I'm curious myself to see how the weigh in goes.  I still say I think these are big pups but the scale won't lie.  Right on schedule, their eyes and ears are opening, some a little more fully than others but most are pretty well there.

On a side note, Serious and I are back in school. We attended session one of Novice Obedience on Monday and I think I'm truly going to enjoy the class!  Sharon who owns Pink aka KatieScarlett from a previous litter has enrolled too making it double the fun.  We treated ourselves to lunch at Panera bread after class, not only for ourselves but to benefit the dogs by increasing their social experiences.  Serious, who remains a work in progress, mistakenly assumed our lunch was his and wasted no time in helping himself to a piece of bread as soon as it hit the table but otherwise he was a good boy!

Today we had a visit from Laura and Baron, Remedy's brother, for a sibling play date. Both pups had a blast romping around before finally settling in to wallow around in a pile of sand. Below they are pictured doing what Dobermans do...  watching, always alert to their surroundings. They turned seven months old today!

What A Difference A Week Makes!

These pups are growing! Weights were posted last night and I'm a bit surprised by the gains achieved! As far as the girls go, Pink and Purple are challenging Sky for the title of largest female. Regarding the boys, Yellow is coming up from behind.  We still have few pups weighing under two pounds but most have surpassed that mark. They're developing some fat little bellies and some muscle and are scootin' themselves around the whelping pool better each day.  Below you'll see them once again doing what they do best... sleeping and eating!  And sleeping and eating! They're too precious for words and they've got my heart!

General Information...

I received an e-mail with a few questions today and while responding I decided my response may serve to answer some questions many of you have or will have in the future. As a result, I decided to alter the response slightly to fit the group as a whole, do a simple copy and paste to save time... and post it here.

If any of you have questions, please don't hesitate to attach them to one of the posts long the way. I always receive notice of blog comments and will address any and all questions there. That way, others who share your questions will have an opportunity to read the answers too. Of course, if you have questions or concerns of a more personal nature requiring a personal response, e-mails and phone calls are always welcome!

Below you'll find some basic information regarding cropping, vaccinations, visits and health certificates. I hope it helps address some questions you might have.

It’s far too early to start talking about dates with the exception of the cropping dates which are set for the 16th and 18th of June. I schedule the appointments early in the game because Dr McBride books up and it’s a pretty big job. Deciding which pups go in on which day is yet to be determined and is based to some degree on everyones schedule and when people can arrive to claim their pups. Post crop, the pups are generally ready to leave the office, recovered and rearing to go around 3:30 - 4:30.  I bring them home and watch them overnight to make sure all is well.  Typically they are ready to join their new families the next morning. On occasion I have people request to take their pups home directly from the office post crop. I prefer to hold them over night because I know them best and can quickly identify normal v.s. abnormal behavior. I've been known however,  to make exceptions.

Regarding vaccinations, in the past I've scheduled my first cropping appointment just prior to a given litter reaching 8 weeks of age.  In doing so, I then had to take those pups to my local vet to obtain their health certificates once they turned 8 weeks.  My 2nd cropping appointment was always scheduled just after the pups turned 8 weeks allowing that group to receive their health certificates the same day as the crop.

I’m doing things a bit different this time around in order to simplify. I’m waiting to crop until all pups are 8 weeks old allowing each of them to get health certificates along with their crop.  The pups will receive their first set of vaccines, administered by me, when they are 6 weeks old.  Most Vets stick to a six, eight, twelve and sixteen week vaccination schedule but for some reason Dr McBride likes to wait until they are 9 weeks to administer the 1st booster.  Since the pups will be close to that when they’re cropped I’ll request they all receive their booster along with the certificate.

As the days turn into weeks, I’ll keep everyone updated via the blog regarding what’s going on on a day to day basis as far as visits etc go.  I encourage everyone to comment, to read each others comments as well as the answers provided. Often the same questions are shared by all. It’s early yet and I haven’t done a whole lot of blogging but there lots more to come!  I promise.

Just A Quick Check In.....

4/21/2015

Hello from Pupland!  Figured I better at least do a quick check in to let everyone know all is well and going great!  The pups are growing! They remind me of a bit of the time lapse images of flowers you see or seasons as they change.  It's almost time to adjust their collars already.  They had their first road trip yesterday and came home sportin' a new look! One step closer to becoming what I consider the Full Doberman! The total package! Glad once again to have the task of docks and dewclaws behind me!

I've been busy the past couple days. Getting things back in order mainly.  Enjoying time with my sister but it seems a bit more like a working vacation than a real vacation. Have nearly recovered though from my water and well ordeal and finally got my Mac up and running.  Looking forward to having a fast PC and one that operates smoothly for future updates and photos!!! Sounds like several of you are Mac fans too!  My sis has been trying to convince me to switch to Mac for some time now and ultimately Mac won hands down when it came to reviews. So far operations don't seem that much different from my old Dell, just roughly 1000 times quicker and no "aw snaps" and crashes!
Probably helped that I've been using and getting used to Gail's Apple rather than fighting and becoming increasingly aggravated with my Dell!

Will try and snap a few photos tonight or in the morning and get them uploaded.  I know how everyone loves to see their kids!  Still need to create a weights page too and post the first weights before the 2nd ones are due!  Hopefully tomorrow.

Just Getting Started!

Wow!!!  Just wow...  Now that we've had a chance to let the dust and pups settle and I've had some time to think about Lexi's litter, I really have to say this seems to be the "perfect" litter. All current requests for pups can be fulfilled and everyone on the wait list will be offered a choice as we have a pup of each sex that has thus far been unspoken for.

I managed to get all the pups weighed today and am happy to report all weigh a full pound or over. That's a first. These are some large and healthy pups.  Lexi again has done a great job and is doing a fabulous job of mothering! Tomorrow the pups will experience their first road trip and vet appointment for tail docking and dew claws.

In other news, having experienced some technical difficulties toward the end of my last litter, I knew a new computer was in order before attempting to update the goings on of a new litter. That problem was solved today.  I hope!  Having my sister in town allowed me a shopping partner. She assures me I will "love" my new MAC as she does hers....  at least once I get used to it she says....  I'm hopeful! Wish me luck!

We are off to a good start.
I was awakened at 12:45 am by a happy, healthy and hungry black and rust male pup (Maroon) with a good set of lungs.
I in turn, awakened my sister Gail who will assist with further pupdates. We anticipate a long night ahead.
1:53 am - We have a matched pair with the presentation of a girl. (Orange)
2:55 am - It's a boy! (Green)
2:56 am - (Purple) was in a hurry.  She assisted with (Green's) arrival.
3:33 am - Another boy (Blue)
4:14 am - Another boy! (Black)
More to come but here's an pupdate: Everybody healthy, active and going for the groceries!
4:29 am - It's a boy (Tan)
4:45 am - It's a.... girl! (Red)
5:35 am - It's another girl! (Pink)
We are happy to announce Lexi has come though for each of you on our waiting list! The pups are strong, active and have healthy appetites.  They appear to be approximately the same size and weight.
6:15 am - It's a boy (Yellow)
6:36 am - Another girl  (Sky Blue)

Lex Says "Not Tonight"

4/15/2015

Well ok...  maybe I say "not tonight".  Lex not only ate her own dinner but dug into Khya's too. She seemed somewhat uncomfortable yesterday but seemed to rest just a bit more easy today.  Again, historically my girl sticks to the 63 days that are considered "the norm". Watching her today, I have to say she just may make us wait till the 19th after all.
