Pretty sure I broke a bone in my foot today...  While taking pics of the pups, Pink specifically, I slipped into a hole by one of the Azaleas that's been there for a while. I was aware of it... original dug by Ritz who was on pursuit of an Armadillo. I partially filled it with what dirt was available around it some time ago..... but the hole was deep and it seems when dogs dig you're always short dirt to fill. Especially around bushes.

When the foot went in the pain was immediate and I recall a faint snapping sound. Like a twig... so if broken I know it's a small lateral bone left foot. Kind of ironic really considering Blue's situation. Left leg swelling for him ... just lower in position for me. Difference between me and Blue though is that he moves with ease and I don't. Has been an hour or so now and plenty of swelling present and I went from being able to walk into my house (with difficulty) to now not being able to bear weight on the left. Fortunately I had a pair of crutches which I retrieved from upstairs. A difficult task... I used the rail to bear my weight on the way up... and scooted down on my butt on the way down. Not yet proficient in the use of crutches and didn't want my reacquaintance to them to involve stairs.

Needless to say, pics for the litter from here on out will most likely be non-existent! Certainly can't distance myself from them quickly enough to snap photos....

I managed to get Purple done the day he left and Brown, Green and Pink done before my mishap and will post them to their pages. Usually don't, as I mentioned, if I can't include all. But this is a bit of an unusual circumstance. I got a few of Hot Pink too. She was last to come in from the run and seemed to be happy sunbathing rather than running right in.... Not the best of her... no greenery and just content to lay as she was.

I'm about to have a nervous breakdown I think... factoring in first the Corona Virus, Blues issue, political warfare most recently and now this.... Going to call it a day and watch a movie. I guess it's time for a new series.

Wish I knew more of orthopedics. Not sure if this requires a clinic visit... not sure much can be done actually. Large bones yes. For sure... but the smaller ones not so sure. My specialty, for 30 years was cardiac. Minimal knowledge of bones. One broken in the past... which turned dark fairly quickly. So far no darkness with this injury.  Maybe a sprain... but I seriously doubt it's so simple. Either way... same basic affect. Seriously sucks!!!

Different day... somewhat better shots. Maybe lighting. Maybe more on my game? Does seem that if I get more distance between myself and a group of pups, then activate the zoom factor, I generally have more success. Always a learning process.

Wrap Up Of The Week....

6/13/2020

So I've got a few announcements... first and foremost and probably the most obvious is that I didn't get my week 8 photo shoot complete... I got a few of the pups done but in all fairness, if I can't post pics of all of them, I won't post any of them.

Due to needed trips to town and afternoon rains on top of getting a late start once again, it became pretty clear I was fighting a loosing battle. The addition of a "somewhat" minor plumbing problem convinced me to throw in the towel for the week and just enjoy my time with the pups with no expectations.  They're getting too quick for me and have their follow me's down! Or maybe I'm just getting slower. :-)  I think a combination of both probably. Additionally at the 8 week mark I usually have the advantage of a slight anesthesia knock down post crop.... Not the case this go round. But I'll do my best and get their 9 week photos and hopefully their 10 adorned in their head gear the day they leave me.

Speaking of leaving me, Justice has flown the coop. I took him in for his health certificate Thursday and Joe and Deb came to pick him up today. They've got him scheduled for his crop on the 15th and I'm pretty sure I can share a pic of his little cone-head self shortly thereafter. They've always been great about sharing updates and photos of their girl Liberty with me and I don't expect that to change with Justice. Word is Liberty has greeted her boy toy cautiously and gently. A great start.

As far as crops for the rest of the litter go, I'm gearing up for the 22nd. Last time I went to Georgia I meandered around town trying to occupy my time... browsed thrift and consignment shops, had breakfast which was horrible and lunch which was fantastic! I won't mention the breakfast spot but for anyone traveling through Valdosta... I highly recommend Empanada's And More!!! I will be a repeat customer any and every time I visit the town! But outside of that,  there truly isn't much happening in the Valdosta area. I saw a lot of cotton fields.

While there last year I put some thought into what I could do for future trips and considered a one day stay at a motel with a pool. But when I factored in check in times, I figured I'd only get a couple hours there at best so that idea wasn't much of a consideration in the end. Then I discovered they had a water park! Decided spending the day there would be the way to go and was actually kind of looking forward to it.... But then Covid hit and along with everything else the Waterpark shuttered it's doors. But, I lucked out. Maybe. Their scheduled day of reopening is the day I travel for crops. They, like us in Florida, will have reduced capacity for a while and online reservations which I made.... I think. Went through the motions anyway... got confirmation from PayPal that I'd paid. But no confirmation from Wild Adventures. And the blasted hourglass is still working on the site of which I made reservation. Another thing to follow up on I guess. Maybe it will be another day of consignment shops...

My other announcement has to do with Blue. I guess it can be said it was basically decided by all involved it might be best for Melody and her family to take a pass. Their worry was pretty evident... and I worried that they worried. I've had several calls for pups the past few days but feel it's best to wait for the Vet to assess his leg. Don't really want to enter into another territory of the unknown. When I have more information to go on, I'll know best how to proceed with Blue. He's doing and looking great though... as is the rest of the pack.

Sorry if it seems I've been a bit MIA past few days. Just lots going on. But your babes are all well. Happy and rambunctious.

It's late and I'm exhausted so I'm going to post what I've got here so far. I'll upload some pics of our week of outings tomorrow. Pups at play.  Blurry or not

Eight Weeks!!!

Some horrendous weather this past week but I finally got all photos of the pups done Thursday. Then the weekend visits and some catchup... and last night I finally had a chance to go through the photos and get them uploaded. Just in time to start the process anew.
Unfortunately when going through the photos I was super disappointed in those I snapped of Miss Pink, aka Asha. The camera just wasn't seeing much love coming from her. I knew it at the time and still had Blue to go so decided to add him to the mix hoping to get a few good shots of one or the other as they romped and rolled together. That plan turned out to be pretty much a wash too. I got a couple good shots of them together but my camera has some trouble with motion.... especially when two subjects are moving simultaneously. And these pups rarely sit still long.
Funny, last week I thought the photos of Asha were pretty amazing. This week the worst of the worst. Was she off her game or was I. Hard to tell sometimes but hopefully this week proves a bit more fruitful.

Another Great Day In The Land Of Pups!

6/6/2020

Despite the weather I think everyone had an enjoyable time. Crappy day for traveling with non stop rain but at least while we played with the pups, that which fell from the sky amounted to little more than a drizzle.

First up Melody and her family arrived to meet Blue. I brought the rest of the boys out so they could see him in action and then wrapped things up with some time with him alone. Everyone agrees Blue is a sweet and adorable pup. Still hoping a Vet check doesn't find anything alarming with his leg... I hate unknowns and I'm anxious to get some professional input. In any event at least in todays world whatever's up with his leg doesn't seem to have any affect on his mobility or zest for life.

Seemed everyones visits overlapped a little today. Just as Melody and her family were ready to get on the road home, Wendy and her hubby -and Jorge and his family drove up the drive together.  And the girls got their turns to wrap their paws around their people. They and Blue romped and rolled, ate dirt and cuddled with their people at times, dug and tugged at branches others. Fun times introducing the pups to their people. We chatted, shared some stories among us and played with pups. Can't ask for a much better day than that. Even with the rain.

And the girls... both of them -were being little hooligans for their first family portrait.

Melody opted out of a "published" photo but we got a few of them too for their personal memory bank.

Wendy and Frank with Lucy... Name not 100% solid yet... But a sweet one.

Seven Weeks and Counting!

6/2/2020

We're getting there... and I've got another busy week ahead of me! Had a lovely weekend though which included several meet and greets. By days end Sunday I was fairly well done in after visits followed by general dog and pup care. And the pups were flat out exhausted but they too seemed to thoroughly enjoy mingling with their visitors -new found friends and family.

Saturday we welcomed Annette and her hubby who selected Brown. They've named him Kaison. Nice name for a Doberman I think! We played around with spellings and did some goggling of meaning of names while they were here and simply had an enjoyable visit. They came equip with several name possibilities but after some thought Kaison is the one that stuck.

Sunday was a little more eventful.

First Joe and Deb arrived to stake claim on a boy of their own. Seeing them was more like a visit with old friends as we've now known each other for a couple years. Ran into Joe once at one of the Doberman clinical trials put on by U.F. -but otherwise our relationship has developed via online communications and phone conversations. Always great to see old friends and meet new though. They eventually chose Purple and have named him Justice. Compliments the name of their female, Liberty, nicely I think. Thanks for the Plumeria starts Deb. I hope they grow as successfully here as they've grown for you, and for me in St Pete.

Next we welcomed Scott and his family who came to get acquainted with their little monster Copper whom we've known for a while now will carry the name Phoenix. The two families time here overlapped a bit which was nice. A chance to get to know others with a common link and interest. The boys loved their time spent, for the most part, on the ground playing with their pup. I joked with Scott saying "well you've just lost your dog to the kids". I say that jokingly but when kids are involved it does in fact generally turn out to be the case.

Shortly after Scott and his family left we got the chance to meet Andre and his family. Unfortunately, I forgot to drag my camera out to snap a picture of them with their pup. Sorry guys. We'll get one of you when you return to pick him up. While they're still toying with names, they've chosen Green.

I spoke with Melody and her husband over the phone once I got everyone fed and settled. Naturally they've expressed some concern regarding Blue's leg and I guess all I can say is a decision is somewhat pending there. We'll see what a visit, planned for this coming Thursday, brings followed by a vet visit for cropping and health cert. I feel bad actually as Danny shared with me he's been following my blog for two to three years and definitely wants one of my pups. From that I'm sure he's well versed in my transparency  But naturally  they're not wanting to enter into a situation where they have what will be ongoing issues. In my heart and with my limited knowledge I don't feel that will be the case. But it's going to be left to the judgment of a Vet as to how I proceed with Blue.

Yesterday I decided it was time to dedicate a day to Fancy. And myself. Multi=tasking. Outside of general care, meals, weights, a pup outing and a bit of time spent with each of mine individually, I spent much of the day in front of the TV brushing. This morning Fancy will get her overdue bath and then it's off to attempt to grab another set of photos of the youngsters. Guess I need to fit a trip to town in there somewhere too. Pups are currently finishing up the near last of their supply. They're going through it... up to approximately 10 cups three times a day split between them. They can definitely put it away. Got them weighed last night but noticed a discrepancy on one so double checked this morning... then checked another which was also off by about a pound. Likely has to do with their overnight fast. Decided to re-weigh all for the sake of consistency and all re-weighed various degrees lighter. Regardless they've all made great gains. Roughly 4-5 pounds over the course of a couple weeks

Extras From The Week...

5/28/2020

Sometimes I have great difficulty choosing what I think are the best pics for the pup pages.... Some photos adorable but the feet or top of head aren't captured. Sometimes blurry etc etc etc.

I'm still fighting time and yesterday, having only completed four pups, I wasn't sure I was going to get the pages updated this week.  But.... I know how disappointing that would be for each of you. And historically I've never missed a weekly photo shoot. So onward through the storm we went. Sometimes literally. For the most part we've had great weather and have continued to receive some much needed but sporadic rain. Some of the pups were lucky to enjoy clear skies. Some traipsed through mud puddles and drizzles during their photo shoots.

Seems I keep getting monkey wrenches thrown my direction at a time when time is limited. When the media took hold of the whole packing problem and forecast a major meat shortage coming up, I decided to order some live poultry. I should know better by now than to listen to MSM... After following for a while and things surrounding the topic calmed, I called to cancel my poultry order of chicks and turkeys. Rural king refunded my money on the turkeys and said they had contacted shipper of chicks and that I should be receiving an update soon. Still haven't ... And....  the turkeys arrived yesterday. Since I'd cancelled and hadn't received notice of their pending arrival, I had nothing set up for them. So that task was unexpectedly placed on the agenda yesterday.

Also mid-week I received a call from one of the local Doberman rescues who informed me they had a dog from one of my earliest breedings coming in asking what, if anything, I would like to do. I informed her I was shocked as I have a return policy in place. And this particular dog is prime example of why that policy is in place. There is no reason for any of my pups to ever find their way to rescue or god forbid the pound. I've received a handful back over the years and I'm happy to report all are placed in loving caring homes that have turned out to be nothing short of fabulous. Most often, if they come back, it happens when the dogs are under a year old and people realize they don't have adequate time. Or the knowledge and fortitude to train .. despite the fact that I try and guard against that when I'm taking reservations. Hence the lengthy phone calls and questions each of you are familiar with. Fortunately I can also say, the dogs that have come back to me have been loved and cared for and for the most part had good manners for age. With the exception of one who had been allowed to completely run amuck for 7 months.

It's not so bad to get a youngster back... they generally aren't as set in their ways and seem to be pretty adjustable to new surroundings. But I feel bad for the older ones who are uprooted from what they know and are accustomed to. I try not to pass judgement though as obviously I'm aware of monkey wrenches. The girl coming back is seven and product of a divorce. Plans are in place to pick her up Monday. I expect she'll be a sweet girl based on photos I've received along the course of her life. Even if the photos have been few and have all but dropped off over the past few years. I think she got a great start in life and that helps tremendously.

Looking forward to the weekend and to meeting a few of you. I always enjoy the selection process!!!
