I'm not really a rain fan... unless it's sporadic. Lived in Seattle for years and definitely had my fill. But... I don't like drought either. I'm a lover of moderation. Things were getting pretty crispy around here but finally we were fortunate to get a break from an extended dry spell.
And I must say, we had a fabulous day... all things considered. With the rain, we saw a major decrease in bugs (yellow flies) zero hawks in the sky and some very welcomed coolish weather. Under a light drizzle it was a perfect morning to get a few more outdoor chores done... kennel care mainly. And then simply spend time with the pups. Pretty much a day off.
Had actually planned to start on the pups individual photos for the week but ended up switching gears, opting to just allow them to enjoy themselves and a new, to them, weather experience.
I've been feeding the pups for a couple weeks now and for a week or so have been helping Getka with the weaning process via separation. To a degree unsuccessfully. Seems she's a bit slow to dry up...still plenty of milk. And as you can see from photos still willing to nurse and the pups still eager to partake. Getka has improved 10 fold from her first litter as far as motherly duties go. I remember thinking early to mid stream through her first litter -if she didn't improve for the second, it would be her last. But she did improve. And now she's acing mom hood. I was a bit reluctant to turn her loose with her pups after a week apart. But I've got to tell you, I was supper impressed with her reaction. Historically, she has been more inclined to blow right past them or bowl them over... more interested in a throw of a ball than them. But yesterday I couldn't even entice her to run for a ball. Unheard of for Getka... pups or no pups. Yesterday was all about her youngin's. She showed them her kinder gentler side with just a bit of rambunctiousness thrown in. Playing. Practice makes perfect i guess. Happy to say. And it's pretty evident fun was had by all. Including me as I simply sat back and watched. Our day started with lunch on the porch which at times consists of straight kibble. At least one of three meals a day. Still lightly blending and hydrating the other two. From there we moved on to play in the yard with some hand me down toys =before finally introducing Getka. Turned out to be a great day for photography too. And the makings of a rather long slide show. Maybe too long... but it's hard for me to choose favorites. The pups wrapped up their day with a brief siesta on and around the porch followed by a lengthy and restful sleep once returned to their indoor space. Exhausted. Quiet!!!
Today I'll carry on with my original plans for yesterday. Individual photos of the pups for their pages. Wish me luck. I hope the pups... and weather cooperate.
Hope everyone had a nice Memorial day weekend.
