4-25-18: Hello Pup Pals! The blog is officially open in anticipation of new arrivals. We've got a ways to go yet... a week longer than I originally anticipated in fact. A good thing for me but maybe a little disappointing for you... Blaming that faux pas on a calendar loaded with pictures since I've got to blame it on something. I'm pretty sure I can still count to nine...
Anyway I figured an explanation of sorts was in order since some of you may have noticed a change in Jess's due date.
Due dates are of course a guesstimate ... a textbook generality based on an average gestation period for dogs of 63 days. Jess historically cuts that short by a few however, so my personal guesstimate is May 10th... or maybe the 9th. We'll soon see how well I know my girl.
Anyway, as I prepare to prepare for pups I figured now was a good time to give everyone a run down of what to expect going forward. Some of you have watched previous litters come up but some are pretty new on the scene.
In about a week I'll be setting up a whelping box along side my bed so Majestic has a chance to get comfortable with the area she will whelp and then tend to, for the first 3-4 weeks, her pups. To date, I've not missed the birth of a litter and don't expect to miss this one either. Occasionally I'll be awakened by the first squeal of a pup but I'm up for the duration after that.
There will be lots of photos and updates along the way including some descriptions of what the pups are doing from day to day and week to week. Generally speaking I'm pretty quick to start blogging once pups arrive but give mom and pups a day or so to settle in before doing a complete linen change and obtaining first weights. Following the first, weights are measured and posted weekly. Doing so is more for my own knowledge and assurance that no one pup or pups are falling behind.

The words you read above were actually written on the 25th... for some reason I decided not to post them at that time. I posted title only. Looking back at the events since it seems there was a reason deep within for that action or maybe more accurately inaction. Seems I get these voices that talk to me. My original count regarding Jess's due date was correct. As most, all but one on the list, are aware we have pups...and now the story can continue. And will. Stay tuned!
