AS THEY ALMOST ALWAYS DO... IT NEVER FAILS TO PUT A SMILE ON MY FACE!
I AM SO OVER IT!!! If I didn't have a million and one things to do I wouldn't be bothered! If I didn't have a house full of dogs going stir crazy from missing their much enjoyed, and needed, time outdoors I could care less.... If I didn't have a litter of pups missing out on opportunity and experiences I've always provided, and feel they deserve, I wouldn't complain. If I wouldn't have trusted the forecast and brought my laundry in beforehand... If I didn't have an abundance of trees that love to topple under these conditions and a "lake" that just became dry and I was glad, for safety reasons, to see go... Then, maybe... just maybe, I wouldn't be over it. But. Those are a lot of ifs and yes, I'm officially over it!!! Sat down to update the pup pages.. and as soon as I selected the first few photos... Out went the power. Fortunately though... the outage was brief and I'm back too it; fully convinced they'll be complete before I retire for the evening?
I'm not sure which took longer. The act of wearing the pups out.. or the time required for my system to upload a snapshot of their antics. I think each made an appearance. Even if brief. Today we were lucky enough to have a full day with no rain and yesterday about half the day. Much appreciated and needed. I did manage to get enough photos to complete the pup pages for the week and a few of our outing. Just need to find the time to get them uploaded. Hoping tomorrow. Definitely before the first of you arrive! Yesterday was the first day in a while that I've been able to keep them out as a group long enough to completely wear them out. The last pup to fall to slumber was Green. Some slept alone... some cuddled with another. But seeing a bunch of worn out pups at the end of the day left me with the feeling of great satisfaction. Each got a cuddle and a free ride back to their indoor habitat and back to sleep they went. Sweet babes! Still working with these little monsters on adapting to dry kibble. They remain adamant they much prefer it fixed up for them... But they're slowly coming around. Nearly had a clean plate club this morning with only slight blending and moistening! And still working... well attempting to work, between downpours. Pups had a big breakfast on the deck this morning followed by a pretty lengthy play time under fairly sunny skies. Happily occupying themselves while I had a fairly lengthy phone conversation regarding .... none other than pups and Dobermans. Just as I was set to try and wrap up the weeks photo shoot a glance at the sky to the south told me it probably wouldn't happen. At least not in the immediate future. About half way done... and will proceed as possible. Officially complaining now... ! Need to mow. Soon we won't be able to find the pups within the forest of grass...
The story remains the same. The picture simply a little more colorful.
Fortunately, Hawthorne has stayed in the green. For the most part. Through the mud and muck... We're trying! I think the pups are faring better than my camera. Don't seem terribly bothered by the rain. But they're not getting hammered either. Just a little more intimately acquainted. These guys and gals have definitely experienced their share of wet weather. Probably still won't like the rain as adults. Most Dobe's act as though they'll surely melt.
Hoping once this big cell moves on we get a break in weather. We've got roads under water, trees toppling from ground saturation and friends' ponds that are now lakes. Enough already!
I usually don't complain much about it... I actually like the rain. I enjoy what comes with it. The feeling of freshness and the greenery it brings. I even like thunderstorms. But it clearly seems we've gone from greenery and freshness to waterlogged. Ready for a break and so are the pups. I've been trying to do a mom and pup photo series but I'm only about half way through it. For now, here's a a link that I've shared in the past regarding socialization, critical periods and pups. From my experience the stages are fairly accurate and I can't stress enough the importance of socialization. Worth the read I think. She does a good job of outlining the balance between the need for socialization as well as the importance of protecting pups, while not overprotecting, during the time of incomplete immunity from communicable disease.
