And it's true it seems I am forever playing catch-up. Monday following a challenging work week end and not feeling quite up to par I decided to spend some time with Khya, my Affie in an attempt to get her coat into shape after returning home from Obedience Class with Serious. Upon closer inspection I wondered if we'd both be better served if I just shaved her. But, I've always said, "if you want a short haired dog; get a short hair dog" so brush I did. Still have some work to do but progress was made...
Tuesday was an early... and a late day both. It started with a trip to Wildwood to have Majestic's hips and elbows x-rayed for O.F.A. where I found myself feeling jealous of the nap she got out of the deal! I was happy, though not surprised, to hear Dr McBrides assessment of her films as Good to Excellent. Not so happy to hear she had fleas though... and under the lights at the office it was plain to see she had several. Unfortunately, the pups have them too! Time to go into full attack mode and treat the yard! The rather large yard!!! But to get the ball rolling I came home and dosed all the adults with another round of Advantix II and Lex with a dose of Advantage. And today after doing a little research online I opted for a dilute vinegar bath for each of the pups. I'm not sure how much good it did but I'm doing what I can and what is recommended... cleaning, bedding etc etc... I'm hoping to get the spray on the yard tomorrow before heading back to work so the spray doesn't interfere with the pups normal outdoor adventures. Hopefully I'll have the flea population in check before they're ready to venture out to join their new families... If not, I'll find something that's safe for young pups and bathe them right before they head out the door.
The to do and partially done list continues. The guy that normally fixes my lawn mower finally made himself available yesterday to take care of my horribly dull blades that have been taking holidays on me... Unfortunately the job he started yesterday had to resume today as a result of some forever locked nuts and bolts... Just my luck! As I watched and listened I found myself with flashbacks of the last job done here. It seems one thing leads to another all too often. This time though, after a trip to the store for some new nuts and bolts and a drive belt that was destroyed in the process of removing the old, I've got my mower back. And for the most part a freshly cut "yard". And you're probably thinking.... what about the pups??? Well, I assure you the pups are thriving. They spent a large part of the day outside in their corral while I tended the grounds. On top of watching me work, wheel barrows roll and a rider come and pass they slept through their first real but fairly gently thunder storm from the comfort of the porch. So much for my plan to capture them on film... and it's too bad about all that laundry that's hanging on the line... maybe it will be dry by the time I return from St A's tomorrow! Or maybe it and we will be rained on once again.
Yes it's true... I'm taking a break tomorrow for some well deserved fun. A get away. I planned the trip a couple weeks back and posted it on my newly developed Facebook page "Let's Take The Dogs". It's Remedy's turn! We will be joined by a couple of Rem's littermates, a pup from my first litter and by Jobe, a pup from Katie Scarlett's litter that, due to no fault of his own, was returned to me when he was about 7 months old. There may be a couple non-dobes there too... I've got some photos to share taken over the course of the past few days and actually some more news too.... but I'm exhausted with another early day ahead of me. More to come and some photos too... goodnight.
