So, I'm sure everyone is wondering who selected who.....
Sally Beth arrived early afternoon. Like Katie, I think she had a pretty good idea who she would choose but has been back and forth between a couple pups all along. In the end it was Orange who won her over. After playing with all the girls, (excluding Sky because I didn't want to wear her out), Red sacked out next to me, Orange shared Sally's blanket and Pink was somewhere in-between. Sally has named her pup Harmony which is actually a name I had considered for a pup somewhere down the line. I like it and think it fits a Doberman personality to a T. Harmony's challenge will be to keep her prey drive in check as she will be expected to live harmoniously with Sally's feathered friends, namely 2 Geese. She'll also have the company of a couple long time resident Skye Terriers. Sally, another that is no stranger to Dobes having had a couple in the past, assures me Geese and Dobes do in fact get along quite well when properly socialized. She sent me a photo as proof a while back and I must say it surprised me to see the pair; a Dobe and a Goose, curled up together in siesta! Harmony is a luck pup... her mom enjoys the luxury of working from home which wiil allow Harmony the luxury of constant companionship. A Dobermans dream come true! I wish I could work from home.... Oh wait, I do work from home... and @ home... and at work.... hmmmm
Anyway......
Next up: Cooki and her hubby Frank. When they arrived all the girls including Sky were in the pup corral. Cooki bent over to take a look and received a warm welcome front and center from none other than Sky... it was like her pup knew without being told... her humans had arrived! And Cooki was ecstatic! She and her family have been waiting a long time and in watching her reaction when she saw Sky, I think she got exactly what she was looking and hoping for! Cooki named her pup Nina and has been referred to her as Nina from day one... It's going to be a family affair for Nina. Cooki's son wants a dog he can jog with, her husband wants to get back into obedience work and Cooki... well Nina is simply going to be Cooki's princess. I doubt boredom or lack of attention will be any thing she will suffer from.
And last but not least... Natalia arrived to take a look at the boys and claim one as her own. Her decision didn't come quick or easy. It seemed she liked them all. I asked her several times if she'd like me to remove any of the pups so she could narrow things down. It seems there was something she liked in all of them. But.... she kept noticing one above all others. Natalia chose Black and has named him Bos pronounced Boz... if I'm not mistaken I think we're going to have two pups that go by "Boz" in this litter.... Natalia's plans for her pup include obtaining his Therapy Dog Certification and I sincerely hope she follows through. Dobermans certainly have what it takes to be excellent Therapy Dogs.... And the more the better since there are still, even in today's world, those who believe the old hype about Dobes being viscous and aggressive dogs who aren't to be trusted. Hogwash... pure and simple hogwash I say. They are probably one of the most loving dogs ever created.... and loyal! If anything, their loyalty is their fault and what could potentially get them in trouble. That's one of the first things I keep in mind when I'm screening prospective puppy owners. If you can't keep your nose clean, you don't deserve a dog of their caliber. Just saying' ... just my opinion.
With that said, Natalia isn't the only one planning to certify her dog. If I'm not mistaken, Jen and Cory share the same goal! Seems I'm doing a good job of screening! :-)
Well that about wraps up the events of the day... I tried to take some photos while we were all out and about with the pups but had little success. Just couldn't do them justice with the time I had... My plan was to try and highlight each pup as they were selected but it seems, once again, there just aren't enough hours in the day.... And I started off with a bang. The shot I took of Xena, probably the best shot I've captured overall, is a tough act to follow!
I'll try and get some good ones tomorrow of those selected today. But tomorrow we'll have two more to add to the list. Wish me luck!
