Pups are doing great. Weights are increasing. On par with some previous litters but not as big an increase as others of same age. Getka is quite a bit less eager to spend time with her pups than some moms. In fact, I've been wondering if I'm missing a good chunk of the time she spends with them because it seems she's rarely with them. I was shocked to see Irish gained nothing... not even an ounce over the course of the past week. He seems bigger and he acts bigger. In my eyes he's bigger but the scale doesn't lie. Maybe he had just eaten prior to last weeks weigh-in and not prior to this weeks. And my day away I'm sure didn't help. He didn't get any mid day alone time with mom. As a result of his lack of growth and the others borderline, with the exception of the red girls, I've begun introducing their mash in small quantity early. They celebrated their third week birthday with it's introduction. Some took to it better than others but none went whole hog. I was happy to see Irish give it a try.
I'm starting to get some puppy kisses and regular doses of puppy breath during handling. They're sweet pups and beginning to gravitate toward me and climb on me if I join them in their box. And they're starting to play with and bat each other around a little. I would say I'm starting to see some subtle differences in them. I think the orange collared pup is most advanced for age at this point. He was the one to consistently walk without falling and is now doing a fair job of running short distance and a little bit of bouncing. The white collared red girl seemed to be demonstrating a touch of bullying behavior this morning. Too early to tell if she'll be a bully or if she was just being playful. Hard to tell when the pup she's playing with was essentially just trying to avoid or not on par with her activity level. She's doing a good job of getting around too.
The time is flying by. Next week, weather and temperatures permitting, the gang should be ready to start their outdoor adventures. We're going to be getting down to the thirties again at night for the next few nights but I think the cold snap is supposed to be short lived. Next Thursday on out, per the forecast, looks good for outdoor puppy play time.
