I came across this Blog by Dr Jen some time back and have since shared it to a few of my own litter blogs. There's really nothing written in the following link that I disagree with. By sharing hers it saves me time and the task of sitting down to put it in my own words. I do speak to all pup parents about the importance of socialization though and can't stress enough just how important it actually is. Early and ongoing. Additionally, I recently came across an AKC article the essentially reiterates the same and will share it as well. It isn't quite as in-depth as Dr Jens and doesn't discuss the critical periods in a pups life as well... but I think it's worth sharing as well. So another link to ponder.
