As far as the current litter goes, the pups were treated today to a nail trim and some extra long cuddles. This done while Remedy took a break and played outside. A surprise of sorts for her. I have no doubt the nail trim was more appreciated by her, rather then them. Noticed when she returned to greet her clawing and clambering ever growing babies. Baby's with claws... and now teeth! :-)
While we're on the subject of nails though... and photos... both crossed my path today and for that reason, it's what I'll share. Not sure if any of you have experience with Dremels, but I for one highly recommend them. When your pups come home to you, they'll essentially have no nails. They're clipped down to the paw line while under anesthesia for their crops. Sounds terrible but I assure you once awake they demonstrate absolutely no sign of discomfort. They're off and running as soon as their feet hit the ground. But once you get them home, nail care should begin. Prior to them needing anything further done to their nails is the perfect time to get them used to the idea of nail care. Play with their paws, and if you choose to use one when the time comes, take the opportunity to get them use to first the sound and then slowly the vibration of the Dremel. And as they grow, if you ever hear the sound of nails hitting the floor those nails are way overgrown. Stay on top of them, starting at an early age and you've won the battle before one ever rears it ugly head. The photos below are examples of perfect Doberman feet and nails... The two photos on top shown with dew claws are correct for European standard. Your pups however will come without per the American breed standard. Two nails you won't have to worry about going forward. If this information is helpful to even one person reading this, I've done my job for the day.....
