Apologies are in order!  Busy busy busy...  Rush rush rush! Sorry Erica and Adam.  I didn't intend to wait until the end of the day to let you know your post-op pups are recovering splendidly! They actually spent quite a bit of time outside with me when we first got home as we waited for Mary and her kids to come for Mercy and Kali whose name has been changed to Mya.

Violet, Cinder and Lou are turning into great little farm dogs, consistently following me around providing some much appreciated moral support as I performed a few of the mundane tasks from an ever growing list of chores to be done.  Your pups were incredible. They bounced  back from surgery like absolutely nothing had been done! And Lou, having already experienced the post op period, was surprisingly gentle in her play with them.  She's a funny pup, her own unique being, as she stretches out, nose in the air and back legs straight out behind her. I saw Cinder demonstrate the pose on one occasion too but Lou owns it!

Again, I snapped a few photos and one of these days will get a chance to get them loaded but I assume all of you will be snapping your own photos before that day comes.  I'll see the three of you; Adam, Paula and Erica once again tomorrow! Your wait has come to an end.

Thanks Julie, for the quick update and photo of Raven. She's going to be spoiled perfectly rotten!

Well, it's official.  The pups with the exception of Cinder and Violet received their travelin' papers today. And again, they received compliments from the Vet and staff while at our appointment. Siri, pronounced like my boy's nick name which I love...  Sidon, and Sig all ventured off with their families this afternoon! Tomorrow Mercy, Kali and Raven will broaden their horizons as they join theirs. And last but not least Cinder and Violet are scheduled to have their ears done tomorrow and will be leaving me Wednesday.

We had a great day!  The house is still a bit of a mess but will be here waiting for me.  Today was a day I opted to spend in entirety hangin' with the pups I've grown to love.  I took a boatload of photos, just some candid shots without any form of organization, first of the cone heads followed by a few of Cinder and Violet too. And we played. Or more accurately, they played.  They've developed a fondness for the holey ball and of keep away. They also discovered a game of tug of war with remnants of last years banana plants is good fun too...  and they followed. Such good followers; already becoming the Velcro dogs they promise to be. And although I'll miss their antics and hate to see them go, I know they'll bring a great deal of joy to some deserving and loving Doberowners...  And again, I hold promise of updates and photos to be shared, allowing me from a distance, to watch these adorable pups mature into the awesome dogs they are destined to be.

Those I look forward to and treasure!!!

Happy Easter!

Looking forward to my day's off and to trying to put some order back into my life! I will say though I'm enjoying the perks that come with working in a place that has running water, 100's of showers and so far one available for use each day! On the home front, I've got my solar showers ready to go for the week ahead, think I've got enough hoses but have discovered more buckets or in order... and shavings; we're going through lots and lots of shavings! And sadly and very slightly, a first; I'm looking forward to having a few less pampered puppies that right now have to take top priority. Some will leave me Monday, a few more Tuesday and the rest will join their families Wednesday. As much as I love them, and generally adore spending as much time with them as possible during their sixth to eighth weeks, I'll have to admit it's been a challenge to keep up with a litter when there's no running water. We're doing it though. Everything else, with the exception of drinking water for all can wait and be dealt with at a later date! Looking forward to vacation, simpler days, hoses that don't kink and to using the still packaged Brinly lawn sweeper that arrived last week... and ultimately water which once again flows freely and in abundance..... later.  Your puppies need you...  they're ready for some one on one attention!

Post Op Pups

Just a quick note to let everyone know your pups sailed through surgery and are calmly resting following a light dinner.  They weren't quite ready when I arrived to collect them so getting home late, once again, there was no time for a photo shoot.  And I'm running out of time with them.  I'm happy to report they received their first true compliment today...  from the vet tech that helped me load them. Her thoughts, offered up without a proceeding question  "your puppies are so good". The don't give us any problems; they're quiet". Maybe all the hard work put into a litter does indeed make a difference. I thanked her and responded, "I love them, they're sweet pups", as I talked to and snuggled each and every one of them into the crook of my neck during the walk to the car. Next up Health Certificates Monday. Then Cinder and Violet in for their crops on Tuesday.  Busy busy busy...

On a side note the water saga did in fact get worse.  Unfortunately the boys weren't able to pull or beat the pump into submission so I wad a drilling company out today to gather the information needed for a permit to dig a new well...  I will hopefully have running water within a week and a half to two weeks.  Uhg!

Back to Dobermans, I received a call from Nick who owns Castle, White male from my last litter and brother to Remedy.  He called me earlier in the week to let me know he would be in town today and thought it would be fun to stop by for a puppy play date.  Sounded great to me!  That was before the whole water saga began.  I called him today to tell him it probably wasn't a best time for a visit but then decided an hour in the whole scheme of things really wasn't going to make that much difference.  I called him back and the dogs had their date.  It was good to see Nick and Castle too; and it was a nice break from all the turmoil of late.  I tried to take some pictures of the dogs as they romped around and got reacquainted but found that to be nearly impossible. Hope everyone has a great weekend.  Your wait is nearly over.

April 2nd, 2015  Running On Empty!

Well, as I write this the pups, some of them anyway, should be in a deep slumber while others are resting and recovering from surgery. I'd like to remind everyone your pups will need post-op visits in about 10-14 days with the exception of Cinder and Violet who should be scheduled 10-14 days from this coming Tuesday. For those of you who wish to follow up with Dr McBride for your pups 1st post and tape, I'll include her contact information at the end of this post. I recommend her; especially for the first visit. If it's too far to travel or horribly inconvenient though, if you've not yet contacted a vet who's familiar with post and tape, I wouldn't waste time locating one who's willing and capable. If any of you have trouble finding someone in your area, let me know. I'll put some feelers out and assist where I can.

While the bulk of the pups are visiting Dr McBride, I took Violet and Cinder outside with hopes of getting a few more photos.  Trouble is, they've turned into exceptional followers....  a really good thing unless of course you're trying to take photos of 'em.

I must say, I'm going to miss this group of pups, though honestly I miss them all...  always a period of adjustment when they venture off with their families. There is a great deal of uniqueness within this group though..  More so than any litter I've raised. While several look similar, I think I could accurately pick each out of the mix if their collars were removed.  I'm not sure I would have been able to come close with any litter of the past.

It's been a ritual the past couple weeks for the pups to have a full out jamboree within the confines of their corral each evening. About the time I'm ready to turn in for the night, they're ready to go after having had the chance to take a nap after their last meal of the day. And go they do!  It's a blast to watch them and some of the differences between them. Mercy is the watcher. Fairly laid back at this point, I've often considered her to be the thinker.  I'll frequently look down to see her watching me; her eye contact is amazing. She's also a moose of a girl!  Personality wise, she frequently buddies up with Cinder for some moderately rambunctious moments but for the most part steers clear of the bulk of the ruckus. Siri and Raven seem very similar to me and I would say are middle of the road as far as activity goes with Raven possibly being the more active of the two. They are of similar size and shape and both seem very people oriented. They're quick to come up for a scratch and a pat any chance they get and at times can be a little demanding of more. . Black is middle of the road too...  he meanders around, rarely drawing any significant attention to himself. Occasionally I see some feistyness but for the most part he's content to just be. He's a defender of self but not much of an initiator. Blue remains quite a bit smaller than Black and Cinder but overall has good conformation. I'm guessing he'll grow to be somewhat tall and lanky and mature to be a pretty handsome boy! His perfect tail set and natural stack are frequently demonstrated. He's a sweet and happy pup, but has his feisty side too.  But where boldness and exuberance are concerned nobodies personality compares to that of Lou.  She amazes me!  She has officially and easily earned the title  "firecracker" of the litter!  I hope you're ready for your little bundle of energy Paula!!!  I understand you wanted a dog to take camping with you; well I think you've got your girl. I would recommend hikes which are laden with lots of hills and valleys for this girl!  And agility!  She's by far the most agile of the bunch and I think will be most like her mom. I truly get a kick out of watching her pounce around in an effort to rile the others.  She's also the one I witness a little over a week ago flip a 360! Pretty impressive for a pup of that age. For a while there I thought Kali might give her a run for her money and claim the "firecracker" award but nope, it's Lou, hands down.  Kali has her moments but the consistency isn't there.

April 1st, 2015 ...  As They Say, Life Can Be Messy!

Picture
A new day and new challenges but first the by far the highlight of the day.

These handsome guys came for a visit early this morning to lay claim to their pup who from now forward will go by the name of "Cinder"!  I love it and I always like it when the pups have a name to attach to them as soon as they're chosen. It leaves me with the impression they've  been thought of often while growing into the dogs, the Dobermans they are quickly becoming. Adam chose Green, leaving just Black and Blue to discover who will be calling them family! Both will be cropped tomorrow and both will enter their new abodes come Monday.

I had hoped to get the time to snap and load another round of photos of each of the pups before they leave me knowing all the while it was going to be a challenge with this slow mo of a computer.  Then a surprise last night....  no not a new PC but the dreaded moment when you turn on the tap and find just a trickle of water. Then realizing the implications.  First and foremost a slew of animals, pups included that can't survive without a working well pump. Cleaning. laundry and showers luxury's not to be had.

Fortunately the pump guys were able to get out here to diagnose shortly after Adam and his crew of campers left. Unfortunately the diagnosis, a need for a new pump, wasn't the one I'd hoped for and one that may get worse before the day ends. Trips to town are in order. One for me to gather supplies and one for them to purchase a pump. Looked like our schedules would jive and it sounded like I'd have things back up and running before the end of the day. Until......  the work began and the pipe attached to the pump 25 ft underground broke at the connection.  Who knows what that might mean....  I was afraid to ask. For now the pump guys are on the road with a promise to return with some type of pipe and a hope, probably more of a thought, of beating the pump out of it's current location and into the well itself.  Bugger! Yep, buggerooo!!!

The joys of country living...  not all a bowl of cherries or exactly a bed of roses but still the life I prefer.

So...  no time for photos.

Today I'll be preparing the pups to go in for surgery. Since I'll have several post-op pups for several days my plan is to assemble the components of the pup corral so each has their own separate quarters to avoid having messed up cups, staples and sutures.  Then it dawned on me I'd need some 14 pup safe bowls of some variety as well as the water to fill them.  On the bright side, I do have a hot tub of 400 gallons that the big dogs, the chickens, cats and the horses can drink and a neighbor who would surely let me fill it up if it starts to run dry.  I've been meaning to buy some more hoses anyway :-( . Although I trust the spa water completely, the pups will continue their spoiled ways and receive bottled water though most likely it won't be Perrier!

Well, the pump guys are back and the noises I hear aren't all that reassuring.............. but rest assured!  Your pups are in good hands.  They're still my babies!

Thanks for the visit Adam and company!  It truly was the highlight of my day!

Pupdates!

The pups are getting big for my basket but I managed to get everyone weighed one last time. These are some pretty hefty pups. Maybe it's just the food...  they can certainly put it away! But while Majestic's somewhat dainty herself, she's of European blood and comes from parents that are both considerably larger than her. And while my goal is to breed dogs that are within the top end of the American standard, Serious has at least one very large dog is his pedigree. I'm curious to see how pups from this litter, Majestic's first, mature and I'm hopeful all of you will remember us and send photo and weight updates from time to time.  Most importantly, I like to know how my kids are doing but knowing something about them helps me make educated decisions regarding ongoing breeding efforts. I personally am very happy with the way this litter is shaping up at this point and expect all of you will be more than happy with your new family members!

The time is rapidly approaching!  Raven, Suri, Kali and Mercy along with Daniel and Corey's Boys will go in on Thursday for their crops.  I've also scheduled an appointment to obtain their health certificates on Monday the 6th at 9 a.m.  They will be ready with their traveling papers in paw when I get home.

The remaining pups, Violet, Lou and Adam's Boy will be cropped on the 7th and receive their health certificates at the same time.  They will be ready to join their families on the 8th as I like to keep an eye overnight.

I hope everyone is well and prepared for incoming but I have no doubt you are.

Rundown On The Girls! The Final Two....

3/30/2015

So...  as it turns out, I won't be keeping a pup from the litter after all. I received a text from Mary last night requesting to be considered guardian of the pup that is somewhat "up in the air".... While I say, things generally happen for a reason, I believe it's true but sometimes the reason isn't always immediately apparent.

I don't recommend taking on two pups from the same litter and typically am not willing to sell two pups to any one person,  but Michael and Mary's situation is somewhat unique. When we first spoke, they did in fact want two pups; one for themselves and one for their sons. At the risk of loosing two sales which I've done in the past; whether they chose to get their pups from me or from another breeder...  I wanted to discuss my reason and rational behind my decision. That's were the uniqueness of their situation came into play. Their pups, while having a good bit of time to hang together will actually be residing in two separate households. Under those conditions I like the idea and would have been willing to accept the arrangement as a good one....  At the time though, we were down to having only one pup available from the current litter. In the end, anxious to get started with at least one pup, they decided to place claim on her and wait for a pup from Lexi's litter to complete their family of Dobes.

So, again things happen for a reason... Two months ago, we decided on the best solution at the time. But a better situation has presented itself. In Brian's absence, it turns out Maroon and Pink will have the opportunity to grow up together; at least to some degree. They'll have a blast playing together as pups enjoying each others company on weekends and holidays.  But.... they'll also have the alone time they need to avoid the chance of developing an overly strong bond with each other which is referred to as "litter mate syndrome". Appointments for post and tape can likely be combined and finding a dog sitter in the event one is needed from time to time should be a breeze!

And on the home front, not keeping a pup from the litter gives me more time with Remedy, who in the whole scheme of things is still just a babe herself!  At the end of the day, life is good and all is once again well here at GMBD's!  :-)

Next up: the boys!  Adam will be here with his kids early Wednesday to get the selection process started once again.  Then Daniel will both select and collect his pup on on the 6th around noon and I'm waiting to hear back from Corey and Caitlyn regarding when they would like to pick up their boy. I've nearly narrowed down which pups will be cropped on which day and will post that information as soon as I hear from everyone regarding preference for pick up.

Week Seven!  The Show Must Go On!!!

And another pup has been selected! Yes, it's true; I've made the executive decision to proceed. My thoughts have been many and varied over the course of the past week or so.  But it dawned on me, while I say I screen prospective puppy parents, my willingness to wait for Brian to surface may look suspect to some of you.  And while nothing has been said, I'd like to assure everyone, further investigations are warranted in the presence of any flakiness where my pups are concerned. And while I still haven't heard from Brian, re-screening most definitely would have ensued! It's been my experience from past litters, while people ultimately choose just one puppy for their family, at some point in time they've considered several and tend to care about all of them.  I care too... deeply... and strive to find the absolute best and most suitable homes out there for each of them.

With that said, Paula moved up a notch on the list and has placed her claim on Red!  And I'm pretty sure she could have chosen no better pup to add to her family considering Paula's active lifestyle and the pups exuberant personality.  Sounds like Red, now known as Lou will be enjoying a rather exciting, busy and full life as Paula's full time sidekick and camping partner extraordinaire! Enjoy the ride Red!
