As expected it was a long night! And one that came and went with a surprising revelation. Shocking actually! A revelation that will require some phone calls to see where we stand and proceed from here. Not really sure where to start actually. Hence the blog post while I think about things. I'm going to just throw it out there and see what kind of response I get.
As most of you probably know, I color test, among other things, all of my dogs. As a result I was quite aware Skye carries a gene for Red as well as a gene for Black. And as I'm sure all of you know, based on conversations, I fully expected a full litter of Black and Rust. And verbally, that's what each of you have placed deposits toward. I've ended up with the right number of pups and the sex of each will even work but as it turns out, Skye was given the opportunity to show her true colors. The whole enchilada!
When considering a mate for her I had two dogs to consider, -a Red dog and a Black dog. I chose the Black in order to avoid the complications that come with trying to take reservations when dealing with a mixed color litter. I've always said, it's difficult enough to try and get the number and sex right without also having to factor in color. Well to my surprise, despite the fact that I've only known Lynk to sire Black and Rust pups, he also apparently carries a gene for Red. When it comes right down to it, I have to take full responsibility for not actually asking if he had been coat tested. I know he's had his hips done which were good and his vWD done but I never asked about coat. I'm sorry if this development comes as a disappointment to some of you. You have my sincere apologies. I'll be making some phone calls later today. and refunds are most certainly an option. Reds are nice but if you're set on Black I understand Red just might not do.
I'm happy to report though, Skye and all nine pups are doing well! We have five black males, two black females and 2 red females. And Skye, to my delight but not surprise, is proving to be an exceptional mother.
Feel free to give me a call if after thinking about things I can answer any immediate questions.
